True Lumberjacks at Heart
We are Logging Sports at NAU, a team that proudly reflects the roots of forestry and Lumberjack tradition.
Founded in the late 1950s alongside NAU’s School of Forestry, our club carries on a legacy of skill, teamwork, and competition. After a brief hiatus in the 1980s, we were reestablished in 2008 and have grown into a 40-member team that trains several times a week.
We compete in events like:
- Crosscut sawing & chainsaw cutting
- Chopping events & tree climbing
- Technical logging competitions across the western U.S.
More than just a sport, Logging Sports builds real-world forestry skills, team bonds, and a connection to history and the land. We’re proud to represent NAU as members of the American Western Forestry Conference (AWFC), competing with schools throughout the region.

Competition Fees
Every $30 will go towards a competitor's fee for competitions that we get invited to over the year.

This will go towards supplies so that we can keep equipment up and running along with following safety out in the field.

Uniforms
We want everyone to have their own uniform. We wear hickory shirts, as they are traditional logging attire. This will go towards purchasing and embroidering a hickory shirt with our team logo for a member.

Travel Cost
Our members carpool to our competitions, so this will go towards the camping fees, hotels, Airbnbs, and fuel. We have traveled to Northern California, Colorado, Montana, and Northern Idaho. Help us travel again this year!
