Who we are:
Welcome Corps on Campus is a new initiative this year, aimed at bringing refugee students to universities in the United States. This is a life-changing opportunity for students who have had to flee their homelands and have faced significant obstacles in their educational journeys. Supported by President Cruz Rivera, NAU is one of several U.S. campuses hosting students this year.
We have two students from Somalia, Zakariya and Halima, who arrived in August to pursue their degrees at NAU. They are already working hard in their classes and getting involved in campus activities, contributing their unique perspectives and experiences to the NAU community. Ultimately, this program will allow them to complete their degrees, be permanently resettled in the U.S., and become American citizens.
How you can help:
NAU has committed to fully support Zakariya and Halima as they pursue their education here. This involves academic and personal support, as well as meeting their financial needs. We will cover all of their costs for their first year (tuition, room and board, health insurance, and other living expenses), and we will continue to support them as needed for the remaining years of their degree. We also hope to continue bringing refugee students to NAU in future years.
