NAU CHAPTER OF RMPA
The Rocky Mountain Psychological Association (RMPA) was created in 1930 for the purpose of advancing and advocating for psychology as a science, a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare in the states of Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Every year RMPA holds a conference at various locations throughout the region for members, professionals, and students to present research. RMPA conferences also include other presentations, such as presentations helping student researchers with the graduate school application process. This year's conference is in Denver, Colorado, from April 11th-13th. This year's student research groups from NAU have chosen to research the relationship between the attendance at Greek-affiliated events (fraternity events) and the nature of sexual harassment, as well as the relationship between college student's attention spans and their usage of the app TikTok. Both groups are actively collecting data for their projects and will present their research in poster-format at the RMPA conference.
SUPPORT OUR TEAM
Our goal is to raise $3000 to cover any expenses our students will have to pay out of pocket for attending the conference. This includes fees for lodging, transportation, and presentation supplies. It will help ensure that all our student researchers have the opportunity to attend this research conference, regardless of their own personal financial status.
SWING YOUR #AXEOFKINDNESS
Your gift will support the ability for undergraduate students to both complete and present their research at a conference. As an undergraduate student, obtaining research experience is crucial for gaining insight into the scientific process and developing critical thinking skills essential for graduate-level study. Graduate programs highly value applicants with hands-on research experience, as it demonstrates commitment to the field and the ability to contribute to the field of psychology. By donating to our student researchers, you are empowering them and helping them pursue their goals.
A message from this year's RMPA Coordinator:
Hi! My name is Sage Kaminski and I am currently a junior at NAU majoring in psychology and minoring in political science. I hope to one day become a professor or an attorney.
This is my first year in the RMPA coordinator position, which I have thoroughly enjoyed so far. As the RMPA coordinator, I am responsible for recruiting and selecting student researchers for both research teams, creating a schedule for our research to follow, and coordinating our funding, traveling, and lodging for the conference. I have also completed other research on legitimacy and procedural justice in law enforcements as well as research on COVID-19. This conference is important to me because I have seen how hard myself and the other student researchers have worked on our research, and presenting at the RMPA conference will be incredibly rewarding. I also love that the RMPA conference provides us the opportunity to network and get to know other professors and student researchers from other universities.
