Support Indigenous Lumberjack Connections and Enrich the Student Experience

Abaya Yala University Association

Abaya Yala University Association

Ya'at'eeh, Aloha, Hola, & Loloma!

Abaya Yala (Mayan for Indigenous Peoples of the World) is a student organization at Northern Arizona University that brings together people who are interested in Indigenous issues within the university and the Flagstaff community. We create a "Home Away From Home" for our members by providing social and cultural support.

Donating to our student organization will provide our students with more opportunities to build connections through events and academic support. Donations would go towards event such as:

  • Indigenous Knowledge Bowl: Indigenous clubs on campus compete in trivia and jeopardy to participate in friendly competition and building connections. The club that wins receives a championship belt!
  • Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Awareness Walk: November 16th Abaya Yala members and the NAU community will participate in an awareness walk to show support for bringing attention and justice to the MMIR epidemic.
  • Abaya Yala Powwow: For the first time in 4 years since the started of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Abaya Yala will be hosting a Powwow at Northern Arizona University. Powwows are a way for Indigenous People and Communities to gather to celebrate culture and traditions through connections, kinship, dancing, singing, and reflection. This Powwow is needed for Indigenous NAU students to connect culturally to build a home away from home.
