Support networking and professional development for women studying computer science at NAU

Women Who Compute

Who we are:

Woman Who Compute is an organization that provides a safe and inclusive environment for STEM-focused individuals formed on professional principles. Our aim is to unite like-minded college women by promoting academics, leadership, and community connections through service and professional development opportunities.

Why we need your support:

Increase equity and access - Women Who Compute (WWC) continuously strives to create a more accessible environment for all current and future members. To do that, we would like to remain a club that does not collect dues. Doing so would ensure all members could attend WWC networking events and activities on campus and in the Flagstaff community without the added stress of finances.

Help us grow as a club - Only 20% of undergraduate degrees in Computer Science go to women. Studying computer science can be rigorous, demanding, and sometimes isolating.  Women Who Compute would like to change that. One of our primary goals as a club is to provide community and support for each other through our academic journey.  However, we need your help to share this message with the campus community.  We aim to do that by purchasing promotional items for club members to wear and share.  Your #AxeOfKindess would ensure more women studying computer science would know there is a support system waiting for them.

Support our local community - Women Who Compute regularly plan and host STEM nights at local Flagstaff schools. We need additional support to purchase materials for these activities and promote these events.

Professional Development - Women Who Compute would like to further their professional development by attending the 2023 Grace Hopper Conference. This conference is a three-day event designed to bring together women in computers to discuss research and career interests.  WWC members have never had the opportunity to attend an event like this and believe attending this conference would benefit us greatly.

Impact:

Your #AxeOfKindess creates more accessible and equitable opportunities for women studying computer science at NAU and builds a stronger community of Lumberjacks. We appreciate your support!
