Byron graduated from NAU’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2001. As a Lumberjack, Byron embraced a zest for life and passion for his chosen path in the hospitality industry. He garnered the respect and esteem of his fellow football players and fraternity brothers. But the accolades extended beyond the field and followed Byron in his educational endeavors. Our faculty and future colleagues held Byron in high regard, and that carried over well after he had left NAU and embarked on his career as a professor and mentor.

He was a respected scholar in the wine and beer industry, writing many articles and presentations as well as several textbooks such as his award-winning book Wine Sales and Distribution: The Secrets of Building a Consultative Sales Approach. He was also the co-author of a beverage textbook, The Beverage Service World: Alcohol and Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Their Role in Hospitality Operations, with one of his professors and mentor, Dr. Wally Rande. Ever a lifelong learner, he continued his scholarly research via the Fulbright award which helped expand his knowledge about wines in Austria.

Beyond the field of education, Byron was a wonderful husband and father. He met his wife, Tami, while they attended NAU. While he is no longer with us, his spirit carries on through his beautiful family and a remarkable legacy we celebrate today and in perpetuity.
