Ahéhee' (Thank you)!

March 30, 2021

We are so grateful for the generosity of our donors, so we wanted to send one final update to let you know how your gift was leveraged to support teachers. Every preK-12 teacher in the 2020 cohort of the Diné Institute for Navajo Nation Educators (DINÉ) was invited to request up to $225 worth of teaching and learning supplies. These supplies were ordered and shipped directly to the teachers within 2 weeks so they could begin using them right away. Here one brief note of appreciation and impact from one of our teachers:

"I just wanted to thank you again for extending the opportunity for us to purchase supplies. I have a 3rd grader that really can't read very well. He is great with sight words, but was struggling with phrases and paragraphs. I bought a set of books, and he is eager to read every day. He does much better with his sessions and begs to read a book when he is done. It's a great thing to see. Thank you for your help in this!"

We are also excited to share with you that we have admitted 42 teachers into our 2021 DINÉ cohort! This group has already begun reading and learning in preparation for our first meeting later in April.

We hope you will keep the Institute for Native-serving Educators, and the DINÉ, in mind as you consider future gifts so we can continue to impact teachers and students in Indigenous communities!

DINÉ Showcase of Teachers & Curriculum

January 25, 2021

We held our third annual Diné Institute for Navajo Nation Educators (DINÉ) Showcase and Open House this past Saturday. It was a virtual event and we had over 100 people in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2020 DINÉ Teacher Fellows, learn about the culturally responsive curriculum units the teachers developed, and find out how to join the program in 2021. We were even honored by a few words from Navajo Nation President and First Lady Nez! Your contribution will allow these incredible teacher leaders to purchase items they need to teach effectively during this pandemic. Ahéhee'!
